@SnowGirl098 Yea I would have to agree with @djfakt I've been taking? lessons for awhile and can play almost anything if you give me the sheet music, but I don't know how to read chord progressions at all which is a part of theory, and its not that progressions are hard to read, I just haven't taken the time to learn them, but I'm doing that now as I realize how beneficial it is to improvisation and playing for people who sing

@djfakt Well, I've been participating in competitive piano since I was 11, and everyone in my teacher's studio is required to learn music theory, not as an official class,? but as a supplement. Anyone who takes piano seriously knows a fair amount of music terms and can figure out chord progressions. As a person who was required to take the level 8 NMTA theory exam without ever having a single theory lesson in her life, I can say that learning piano provided me with most of the basic knowledge.

@tryingtoharmonize Try two part harmony first. In fact, FIRST trying singing by yourself and staying in your key. If you can't stay in your own lane by yourself, you might? have a problem harmonizing w/others. You have to not be swayed into the other person's notes. I sure wish you were here and I can show you what I mean. To me there is nothing like two or more voices harmonizing. I thank God I got a chance to sing in many choirs, glee clubs, etc. Good luck!

Hey, I love your harmony. You two are so talented. I have wanted to be able to harmonize for such a long time but have never really learnt. thank you very very much - i? just hope more people would know about this tutorial :) yeah - its a shame not many indians play instruments - they are wonderful things instruments are i do not use sheets - well i didnt for this - i just listened to it a few times. the kal ho naa ho instrumental soundtrack is wonderful :) so i listened to that whilst playing and thats how i got it :D no problem - i know many people who always wanted to play this piece how it sounds llike in the instrumental

@schwill81 Usually Open G is DGDGBD. But instead of tuning your low E to a D, Raise it up 1 1/2 steps to G making the tuning GGDGBD. I think he is saying to leave your high E in D like? standard open G. So basically you raise your low E to G, drop your A string to G, keep the D, G, and B strings in standard, and drop your high E to D, which makes a G chord when played open.

I recently got a Casio WK-220 keyboard. It has 76 keys. A few videos said I should get one that is a full 88 keys. How necessary is this? The Casio I have was about $170 but all the 88 key keyboards I find seem to cost over $500. I may not know where to look but is 76 keys enough? I don't exactly want to? gimp myself when learning how to play and I could still return it if some of the 88 key ones are reasonable priced and necessary. But pop songs are much easier to play? than traditional piano scores.... it's just a combination of playing chords and bass notes/lines. If you're a beginner you shouldn't be playing pieces that require you? to stretch or jump uncomfortably. Remember you should ENJOY learning the piano or you will quit. Find an easier version of that song you want to play. And take your time, be patient with yourself and don't compare yourself with anyone else. Take care!

@IZAINTI - you'll want to watch a few different channels on YouTube to get several sources of piano information. I basically teach a beginner series. As far as how much a piano can cost... you can buy a decent digital piano for $300 or go up to $100,000 for? the best grand pianos.

Here's another tip...just something I find handy. There's probably at least one song you know off by heart so well you can recall the pitch really well. If you know the first note you can use that to gauge the key by ear. For example, I can hear the first note of 'The Boxer' by Simon and Garfunkel. That note is a G, so I use that to work out where? the note I'm listening to is.
