@TragicallyHipson Just like the A minor chord but lay your finger across the entire second fret(if you do? it that way you don't need to worry about placing the tip of your finger next to the E string to mute it.. Just DONT strum the 6th string) Tilt your first finger a little so it is on the side a little rather than being flat across..Really that barre only has to press down on the 5th and 1st string..Your other fingers are holding down the Am shape.

However, I suspect that you are looking for more than what ballads have to offer. You may be after a hint of swing. Seems as if you want contemplation music. @annonymius Pat 2. Although I like the Wall it is certainly nowhere in my own opinion remotely? as good as Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals. It's not even remotely as good as Meddle for that matter. The Wall is very much what I said it was in the first place a commercial album and nothing more. It was also the album that started the downfall and demise of such a great band without a doubt. So there is another reason for not liking this album so much.

@annonymius Part 1 I can understand this theory quite easily to be honest as a long time fan of Floyd's music. Although I would not say entirely that I do not like the Wall. But what I will say is? that the Wall is very much commercial regarding Floyd's music in terms of that came before it. I would even suspect that you yourself first got into Pink Floyd when they released the Wall, which is something that I find with a lot of Floyd's fans. Who have more respect for this particular album.

Part 2. I can play Elton Johns material and although it is good in parts it does not measure up to this written by Richard Wright. Wright may of not been a superb player of the keyboard, but this particular piece show he had a lot more than what people gave credit to, regarding his playing abilities. It just goes to show what? a bass guitarist such as Waters really knows about music in the first place. Thank you very much for this delightful tutorial.

@EviLNox8 - you have more? keys than I had when I first started (I only had 49 keys). This depends on what you want to do on the piano. Do you just want to play keyboards in a band or do you want to be a concert pianist? 76 keys is a great number to start out with in either case.

I recently got a Casio WK-220 keyboard. It has 76 keys. A few videos said I should get one that is a full 88 keys. How? necessary is this? The Casio I have was about $170 but all the 88 key keyboards I find seem to cost over $500. I may not know where to look but is 76 keys enough? I don't exactly want to gimp myself when learning how to play and I could still return it if some of the 88 key ones are reasonable priced and necessary. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

@TriumphantTonks - partially that depends on how fast you learn. But pop songs are much easier to play? than traditional piano scores.... it's just a combination of playing chords and bass notes/lines. If you're soloing than you'll want to mix in the melody notes in as well. Visit my website for more info...

@DamiensBabyBear - Children have small fingers too. Yet there's no shortage of child piano prodigies on YouTube blowing piano players like myself out the water. If you're a beginner you shouldn't be playing pieces that require you to stretch or jump uncomfortably. Remember you should ENJOY learning the piano or you will quit. Find an easier version of that song you want to play. And take your time, be patient with yourself and don't compare yourself with anyone else. Take? care!

Also, from the next lesson on chords, you could work on finding chords from each scale using both your left & right hand equally. @lilmissmuah Congrats on getting a piano! The piano is unique because it is one of the only instruments where you can play multiple parts at the same time. Typically our left hand plays the bass (low) notes and our right hand plays the treble (high) notes. I plan to discuss specifically what to? do with each hand in a lesson very soon so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, I would suggest that you begin by doing the same thing in both hands to build strength and dexterity.

Here's another tip...just something I find handy. There's probably at least one song you know off by heart so well you can recall the pitch really well. If you know the first note you can use that to gauge the key by ear. For example, I can hear the first note of 'The Boxer' by Simon? and Garfunkel. That note is a G, so I use that to work out where the note I'm listening to is.
