Your system of teaching is the best I've ever seen in my humble opinion! I've never? had much interest in learning to read music(which always kept me from learning piano), but then I started about 6 months ago just learning the chords through chord charts and playing songs I already knew on guitar. Just now getting into the FUN stuff!! Thanks man!!

@rjslade 1-3-5 as in the chord note, the third and the fifth ? I can't see how it makes the subject any more advanced. I mean you just play the same three notes, if you want a three note chord, in whatever order you? want, with as many fingers as you want. And I do believe having some form of chord knowledge, at least the basic type you mentioned, is a prerequisite for learning chord progressions. You can't blame the teacher, he probably has other videos on chords specifically.

@Lypur Andrew, how come it takes so many years to learn piano? that's very discouraging! I really, really want to learn, because I'm going to be writing my own songs and theme musics, so I don't want to be a concert pianist, but I want to be in your words, "really good." @musikaddict21 i'm a piano teacher also, and altho i agree that they shouldn't have used the word "prodigy" in the title, the teaching method is sound. this is 3 minutes out of a 20 minute lesson. chidren must hear music being played by teachers in order to develop their ear. the 5-yr-old in this vid is distracted by the camera and cameraman. i know this because i attended the workshop where this vid was first presented. the cameraman is the? teacher's husband, who is a teacher himself.

The misleading title annoys me, so I reply.... If you're going to entitle? a video "Kindergarten Prodigy:....." One might reasonably expect to see a young prodigy. The child in this vid is no prodigy, he's barely interested, or is attention deficit, or sommet. He shows no musical aptitude whatsoever. Also, a true musical prodigy would be bored to tears with this woman's "lesson". This vid is crap and a waste of time.

I dont think you understood a single thing I said. I never said I hated my piano? teacher. I find your innuendo insulting! Honestly if you cant understand the concept I am talking about you have no business teaching kids to play. A good piano teacher will find ways to engage the children and take the time to find their likes and dislikes. Just because you have a degree in music does not mean you understand psychology of a child. A uneducated fool hates correction, and uses words like "HELL."

To greetingsearthlings1 - I bought my own books and taught myself to read classical music notation from ages 4 to 11 actually (its not rocket science...), I proved myself 1st then my mum got me a teacher. Don't blame all teachers because you have no motivation.......No teacher can MAKE you do anything, you have to prove yourself 1st and do the work........if you are unable to? play the simple beginner stuff then how the hell are you going to be able to play Mozart or Schubert?

to greetings earthlings1 I hate those camp town racer american crap songs too, these as simply a tool to help beginners find their way round the keyboard, and clearly are a stepping stone, to real music. Most good teachers teach classical, some parents want the kids to learn classical but the kids don't want to. Saying you hate yor? teacher is not wise - they may hate you too, and are within their rights to discontinue teaching you for a bad attitude........

You are so wrong! I HATED those silly songs like Camp? Town Racers, among other ridiculous songs my piano teacher made me play. I didnt progress for almost 3 years. My mom found a new piano teacher. The piano teacher went more towards the classical. If you have students not progressing and refusing to practice they more than likely HATE the music your making them play. They are bored. (I dont understand what the person up top is saying either. Her grammar is horrible)

This music teacher is amazingly patient and complete devotion to her profession and music. However, this boy is either too young for this or completely not into it. I am guessing she has to be his mother to try this hard on this boy and still had so much fun herself. May be piano is not for the boy. Try something else. If she is not his mother, I? say she is the best music teacher for young boys.

@piccoyotom You can play in A minor.? It uses all white keys. I learned how to improvise in both major and minor. It's true that minor is more complex and requires an understanding of major first, but it never hurts to experiment. I taught myself by banging around until I made a song, and then gradually learning the patterns that go along with chords and rhythms.

@live4themelody Short answer - tension notes for Am or Am7 are BDF# Long answer - it's a little tougher with minor chords. With major chords the tension and resolution notes together make up the related scale - In a Cmajor7 the (resolution notes CEGB)+(tension notes DFA)=(related scale C Maj Scale). With minor7 chords the most common? related scale to use is a Dorian scale. The dorian scale is like a major scale with a flat 3 and 7. So Am7 dorian scale is ABCDE(F#)GA and tension notes are BDF#.
