@elohd go to your amp turn the bass at 12 o'clock mid at 5 o'clock (maxed) and treb at 11-12 o'clock ish and get some heavy gain pedal or if you use modulation that works just make sure to use all the mid you can and use lots of neck pick up?

@guillotinedeath Well, technically, it is? sweep, yes. Just most people use the phrase "sweep picking", if it covers 3 strings or more. "Economy picking" is used more for two string sweeps, when you don't alternate the direction of the pick.

@pikajesus It's not that hard, really. I had played guitar for only 4-5 months before I started learning basic music theory such as this. You just have to memorize the notes (there are just 12, so it shouldn't be too hard), then learn the general formula for major and minor scale? (Where you'll be using 7 of those notes) and finally know where the notes are on your neck and you are good to go. It takes some memorization, but it's much easier than mastering any guitar-technique.

i recently got back into guitar two weeks ago...i used to mess around doing chords and reading tabs, but never got into theory...could you maybe do a couple scale lessons...you explain stuff very well. I have a hard time finding a good video on? using scales also...most people just tell you how to play them, but not how to use them.

I was just kidding? with you anyway.Im sure it's not that complicated just slightly different details but still based on the same Western system.I imagine it would be interesting to study a music theory system that is completely different. I believe the Chinese system for example is completely different & Im sure would be interesting to study.

@ShredGuitarAcademy Well, I wouldn't call it? more complicated. Apart from the fact that we call B's "H" and Bb's "B", and also the different expressions for sharps and flats, the notes are all the same. But isn't your band's drummer norwegian? He should have taught you this by now!

@ShredGuitarAcademy If you have not received a proper explanation for the "H"-note, it's simply? that here in Norway, (and possibly some other countries, I don't know) your "B" is referred to as "H". Your "Bb" is our "B", though our notations are all the same (Bb, G# etc). However, we don't say "G sharp"- or "flat". We say "Giss" and "Gess". The "-iss" suffix means sharp, while the "-ess" means flat. But we mostly just use the "-iss" of the preceding note instead of the "-ess"'es. So Gess = Fiss.

You? know, C D E F G A H C ... etc. So, basic tuning of guitars is E H G D A E. Even in my country (Slovakia, Central Europe btw) is that so. Little weird, but thats how they teach it here. I was thinking about everything that had to be done both on and off stage...it seems to me a person would be working 24/7, and then someone wants to throw a raging alcohol/drug habit in? on top of all that?! It's a shame you couldn't have found some other musicians on your level who weren't strung out to go forward with. I don't know why people think that sort of behavior has to be a part of it.

@wvClifton Thanks Clifton. There was a work ethic problem. This was our first Roxy gig. For the second Roxy gig, one member was too wasted to participate in the final rehearsal. He slept in the next room while a roadie took his place. I'm glad that you? enjoyed the interview. It was fun doing it. I think it's a shame you weren't able to go forward with Hawk on account of pervasive drug and alcohol abuse among your fellow bandmates, although I must admit I don't understand how anyone could maintain an adequate work ethic and be wrapped up in that shit at the same time. @Slackware10 Yeah, one of the main riffs has a quarter note triplet at the end of it's phrase. It's just a triplet which lasts 2 beats (quarter notes) instead of 1. Try counting (with a triplet feel, slowly or song tempo)? 123 while clapping two beats.

Mustaine's style? is a lot different than James, and in the long term, probably less influential on metal as a whole than James', regardless of which is "Better" Mustaine tended towards being more technical and blues tinged, not as heavy, but more intricate. James' had that more down and dirty chugging feel that we all know and love. Mallsteen is a completely different style altogether, neoclassical shred, not thrash.

It's not at all uncommon for melodeath screamers to be less guttural and higher pitched than on standard death metal. Like At the Gates, In? Flames, Dark Tranquility, Hypocrisy, Arch Enemy, Heartwork-era Carcass... Plus he sounds a lot less pathetic on the records.

@TheMicasa99 I agree that is an excellent solo, but be warned, it does? contain many 1 1/2 step bends. As does the entire song. You'll have to move up on the fretboard to prevent your strings from breaking, believe, me it's happned to me before while playing the solo.

@andrew3327820 Learn the same pentatonic scale on the E, A and D strings. If you are attempting to write a solo, simply improvise over the track about 30 times,? and by then you will consistently be playing the same solo with a few minor adjustments. Ultimately, if you really want to "craft," a solo, then as long as you know how to write music, use something like guitar pro.
