@Jonalexher If you want the tone of his solos on The Dark Side of the Moon, get a Fuzz Face for distortion. If you want the tone of The Wall, get an Electro-Harmonix? Big Muff. You should also have a good amp. David Gilmour uses Fender a lot, if you have the money buy one of their tube amps. You might also need a delay. But remember that even if you have all of the exact stuff he used, you still won't sound like him unless you can play like him, and that will take a lot of practice.

@mccoubrj That's David Gilmour, he wrote the guitar part. I think you need to listen to Pink Floyd more. This song is on The Dark Side of the Moon, it's a lot different than The Wall. You should also listen to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, I think it's the best psychedelic album? of the '60s.

So I watched some videos of Jack Johnson and his back-up guitar guy playing this live. When he plays it live it is indeed 1 step up from the record so it become: A->G (barre) G-> F (barre) D-> C (with some strums on F too) E-> D The intro guitar lick starts on the D string at? the 9th fret (on the record it starts on the 11th) and is played while he hits the other strings which are muted. Marty's version matches the recording of the song which is obvious when playing along.

Music is about chilling out and having fun not about playing every single exact note perfectly. Bill had used him on some of his earlier Essez recordings - especially ROCK THE JOINT, where the solo was actually first done (look it up on Youtube: Rck the joint-Bill Haley. Danny Cedrone only lived for a few months? after the Decca session. He fell down a flight of stairs and died after fracturing his skull.

@burlearth I wasn't saying that Uli is better than Jimi because his guitar has more frets and I certainly wasn't disparaging Jimi or his playing, but you can't deny that it takes a very high skill level to play a guitar with a 6-octave range. Regardless of the reason why, Jimi never did it. Obviously, Uli took a lot from Jimi's style and would be first to acknowledge that. Even Jimi had his influences. Uli broke new ground by developing? a unique instrument and playing it like a virtuoso.

@chosenfool It's not Jimi's? fault that death got in the way and skill level does not equal musicality regardless of how many frets you put on your guitar. Uli's also pretty old-fashioned in his style these days.

@burlearth - Sorry, but as great as Jimi was, Uli surpassed Hendrix's skill level in the 70s and has continued to progress as a musician. Jimi couldn't play what Uli plays for the simple reason? that Jimi's strats had a 2 octave range and Uli's 7-string Sky guitars have close to a 6-octave range. Who knows what Jimi would have accomplished had he lived, but Uli is alive and still raising the bar for electric guitar virtuosity. He is The Master.

does anyone else think he's playing the lick at 2.20 different to how it is on the original recording?? i slowed down the original and it doesn't sound like he plays it with as many outside notes....maybe he's just playing it differently now? it was 30 years ago....

I know it doesn't have a whole lot to do with the song, but I was trying to cover a different song and? I just wanted to know, how do you put the 2nd part of the video on top of the other in the little rectangle like that? I need it so that I can overlay the drum part and the solo for the song. I really love seeing this sort of stuff in Guitar World. This is the stuff a performing guitarist needs to? get by in the world. To get a paying gig at functions being able to play semi-quaver quintuplets at 155 BPM isn't important - but being able to vamp over chords, play changes and knowing "Message in a Bottle" - THOSE are the things younger guitarists shoud work an. Shred all you want of course, but a bit of advice - learn the stuff for contemporary stuff too, theres more to music than metal

Thanks for the? video. This was burning with inspiration, and gave me more drive to get serious about learning guitar. I've been watching your videos for over a year now, and you have been pretty much my guitar teacher. I annoy my whole family every time I learn a new song and am constantly playing as soon as I get home from school and while watching T.V. I really enjoyed your story if how your skiils have developed. Thanks again for all the videos.
