The best way to be a good? guitarist is to be an accomplished bassist first. Worked for me. You can learn this Hendrix style easily by always using the 3rd as your lowest note in a chord. It just stacks up after that. Example: Play a power chord in D. Instead of D being the lowest note, make the lowest note an F# on the A string (4 frets up) from the D. You'll still hold down the rest of the notes in the D power chord, as usual. Now you can play games with the notes in the chord.

@algrand90 I agree that Broderick could probably not tap like Stanley Jordan. But Jordan is not as complete a guitarist as Broderick (Broderick plays jazz, classical, flamenco and of course rock/metal. He also excels at piano). Note that Shawn Lane's style is VERY rock/metal-based n isn't purely jazz..Also Shawn Lane? is absolutely amazing, no doubt... But he can't play ambidextrously like MAB. My point is YOU CANNOT COMPARE BETWEEN GUITAR GREATS AND EVEN LESS BETWEEN MUSIC GENRES!! A+++

Super Guitar Trio consisted of guitarists who PIONEERED & DEFINED the genre of jazz fusion: Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia & John McLaughlin. Hi Marty, Kind of a random question for you but I'm kinda looking out to buy a Gibson? LP was looking at one and it has the guy in the shop was making a big thing of it being an unchambered body.
