Not 7 strokes..just a rookie here..but it depends on what you are? using the 6 stroke roll for. If you are using it for a 6/8 fill then you do it twice. So, it isn't seven strokes..he is just saying you start it back over the way you began. 12 strokes in all for a 6/8 fill.

now im new to drumming but if im not mistaking? a six stroke roll is simply a five-stroke roll with an extra tap (not a bounce) at the end, for a total of two ending taps so RRLL R L.

Great? lesson. That is referred to as an open double stroke roll. I learned this technique during my freshman year in college. All southern show bands use this style. I prefer this style over a buzz roll any day!

A great test for finding? out if pillow-playing is working, is to play on the leg... just behind the kneecap. If it hurts... it's back to the pillow. The benefits of pillow-playing are many - the practice teaches a player how to play on the "up-stroke". Wonderful forearm, wrist and finger tension-control. Important video. Well done.

@aguzz132 Please watch Chad Szeliga drum lesson #4 part 3. He? clearly says that he plays the bridge with double bass, but that he is working on playing it with one foot. He even demonstrates that he can almost play the bridge with one foot but that he hadn't perfected it at the time. Again, by now, he probably has it perfected, but, as I said before, when he recorded lesson #1, he was still playing the bridge with double bass. Chad is one of my fav drummers, but I'm just stating facts.

@superdale Well if you had looked up Chad Szeliga drum lesson #4 pt. 3 like I said, you would see that he does in fact use a double pedal? for the bridge part. Even in this video, he only specifies that he uses a single pedal for the verse. Still, I'm not taking? anything away from Chad, he is a very talented drummer, and one of the fastest single bass players out there.

Just as a clarification for all you guys watching this video : The verse of The Diary Of Jane was always played with one foot, as is stated in this video. However, at? the time this video was released, Chad was still playing the bridge with a double pedal. You can see that he is playing double bass if you look carefully at his left foot from 4:02 - 4:06. But with his chops, he's probably started playing it with one foot. Sorry about any confusion!

Wow, the 3 stroke pattern (5:45) is? pretty much the same you can hear in Mogwai-"Scotland's Shame". Thats a good one to take if you wanna practice along with music - lots of the post rock stuff is actually low tempo with lots of space in it. It can blow your mind in pieces. Enjoy!

How tigh are those pedals? 'Cause I tried that foot technique with my pedals at a medium/low tension and they didn't give me enough rebound to execute the second and third? strokes properly as they did with a higher tension.

@sher5nong A way to learn the second method, is to se the way Weckl does the single stroke roll fast in the Back to Basis vid. He is in the cradle position, but he is using his two fingers on the top? to pus it down into the drum. Do that after the first note you played with the left hand, so when it bounces back, you will snap it with your top fingers. It will give you to even and solid hits. Hope it helps!! If you dont understand this, buy Jojo Mayer DVD "Secret weapons for the modern drummer"!

@Triforce12345678 Starting with your left won't hold you back at all. However, you should practice so that you can do any rudiments starting with EITHER hand. Go VERY slowly and practice just playing 16th notes starting with your right hand on the snare. Once you have that down, do 16th notes around the kit starting with your right. Finally, play a beat and put the fill in, starting with your right. You can do cool things? starting with your left too (see Come Together by The Beatles).

The music academy i get lessons from? was having a show where they would organize bands and they would play a couple of songs. when we were working our way through this song we got to this part and i was like,"what the fuck should i do here?" the instructor we had helping us was like,"sounds pretty easy to me" and i was like, "easy for you to say lol." i was cluless until i saw this video. thanks man. the show went great. @Andoriu116 I think at that point you have to switch to the Moeller technique (if you don't know it you should definitely look it up). Depending on your chops, Moeller technique can allow you to play continuous eighths, sixteenths, or whatever else at? a high tempo. It's a pain to develop, but once you have it you can pretty much blow anyone's mind who doesn't know what you're doing.

why do people make it a point to find anything negative to say? he is a freshman at Berklee which means he is young. Perhaps he is influenced by other people who use the same chop or lick. ok, its paradiddles around the set....AND? the KID has skills, and he is smart enough to try and pursue being a musician by going to school. If you feel you are better than him, give him constructive criticism, don't talk shit about him...sadly people who talk shit? are prolly garbage on the kit.
