The other trick, which makes it readable but actually not the most correct is to e.g. type twice the same note for the longer one and use "Tie Notes" (see buttons lowest row in toolbar). e.g. HiHAT typed 2 times in quater and tie them to make a half length of it while you keep the Bass drums as a quater. This is not the correct notation but this is at readable? and you would then understand what you hear. And playing along would then be possible. Good luck!

@cougher989 Hey Cougher &? Others! If you didn't fix your issue in guitar pro (in version 5 at least) for drums I may have 2 work arounds for you in Guitar Pro. What Milkroll is suggesting does not really work. 1. You can fortunately apply different durations for separates notes by changing their percentage in "Sound duration". But this makes the correct reading of your sheet music impossible; if you wish to play it along, the different durations will only be audible but not readable.

38 is better than 40. 40 is the the pop kinda snare and 38 is the acoustic snare. if you are using a acoustic drum set then use 38 for? your snare, if you are using the pop drum kit then use 40 as your snare.

@MillionsofBees When I first started playing the djembe some self-titled local djembefola commented about how some people such as myself, should not play drums and my lack of skill indicated I had no? respect for the instrument. I felt very embarassed then and did not play for a few months, until moving to another part of the country. Now it's about 4 years later and every once in a while I see that old critic guy...I can play circles around him and no one doubts me for my white-ness lol

@drago884 When you say it doesn't add to the rhythm I wonder if you've ever heard it done live by good african musicians. The first time you see a good djembe fola it's jaw dropping - you can feel the slaps and tones resonating in your body. Certainly adds to the rhythm for me. Of course there's some extreme syncopation going on from time to time but that's west? african djembe solo for you. It certainly 'fits' the structure as far as they are concerned. I think it's beautiful.

I play the djembe in the old African drum circle in prospect park, nyc. I've been able to get pretty good over the years, but I see a big difference between the technique of good African players and myself. The good - aka skilled in technique - African players will throw in a long fast-paced rapid-fire like beat, the way Mamaday did towards the end of this video. I still dont get it..it doesn't? add to the rhythm. It's impressive he's able to drum that fast, but it doesn't 'fit' the structure

That could most likely be due to the quality of the video... Drums have frequencies/vibrations, low? and high, that are beyond the range of even some high quality recording equipment. Live is the only way to hear music like that. I bet that room was full to the brim of beautiful percussive harmonies intertwined with complex rhythms.
