Another great and easy and short warm-up is involving all paradiddles, but in a different way: Paradiddle x4, double paradiddle x 4 triple paradiddle x 4 and then just count down so 4, 3, 2, 1. Its short, easy and works very well. :D Try that out too? guys

@sweetfly66 another thing he mentioned at a clinic was when? practicing, just stay at a constant tempo, dont try to go slow and just get fast without stopping. just practice at a constant tempo and then when you feel confident, stop take a breath and try it a little faster.

@GrahamYoungGuitar he also? had a drop d detuner. so he uses them in combination to get that low of a note. i play the attitude bass. it has such a solid neck joint that you really dont have to worry about it.

@GrahamYoungGuitar it´s a nice trick. You just move the neck and maintain the body still, but sheehan have a special setting in his bass to do that way. You can? try it in the guitar, to get some nice vibrato; Gary Moore used to do this a lot, see Parisenne Walkway to understand what i´m saying

@underscoreisnotvalid no its just a large a "remote hi hat" the pedal is on the left as you said , and a series of chains and shit connect the pedal to the actual drum piece which in on the right side of the bass drum, its suppose to have the advantage of opening up your left hand , alot of metal drummers use them so tht they can quickly move about? the kit. its not i ride of any kind i dont think, just a very large and low sounding hi hat

@greasemunky326 The booklet in the DVD (available at Amazon) lists a PEARL 14x3 brass snare. he had an endorsement with Pearl; was almost excluslively GRETSCH in the studio; and played BRADY and Gretsch from '90 on. Brady doesn't do endorsement deals....I'd have to 2nd-mortgage my house to own what Chris Brady? made for jeff....

@G8GT364CI AMEN! I'm sharing drum stuff with my neices right now. I've played 36 years of piano; 26 of flute;and? 4....of drums. The blues shuffle here is one of the sexiest grooves ever. Jeff and Mike had a God-Given blood-relative tie that allowed for elegant precision as a team. Jeff's easy grace with that opening track almost made me toss my sticks out the window. He is forever missed.

I used to play a combination of Zildjian and Sabian because both companies do certain things well, but neither are rounded out for my taste sound-wise. I now play with all Dream Cymbals. All of them are rides. What i like is that all of their rides can also be used a crashes and vice versa. I use a 16"energy crash with a 16" bliss crash as hi-hats. It sounds SICK! People everywhere are like "what the? hell kind of cymbals are those? I WANT THEM!" What do your dreams sound like?

@teamcoupe For me personally I've tried a number of size sticks. You do need to be heard and if you are not miked then? a fatter stick may be better. Tony Williams used fat sticks even in a Jazz context. Try a lot of different size sticks then make the choice based on how they work for you.

you can tell hes very comfortable with what he's playing, which is probably the key. If you can get the feel for what you're playing, then it becomes more than just a simple beat. for example, I joined my high school jazz band with no previous jazz knowledge. Once I got the feel for the swing and all the rest of the stuff, you could play with more? emotion as opposed to just playing whats written. its a very weird feeling :P

Today, we take that for granted. An Arnold Schoenberg fan might consider Bach? irrelevant, but then they don't truly understand what they've been listening to. Schoenberg listened to Bach. John Coltrane listened to Charlie Parker. Chris Tgalkis listened to Neil Peart.

I know both Chris and Billy personally and they are both amazing players. Comparing all the drummers is kind of stupid but I would say that Chris and Billy are equal. Gil's style just doesn't fit the band so I put him at the bottom. Chris Pennie pioneered? the style of drumming used in Dillinger's music and Billy is expanding on those core ideas. Both are great drummers, they both shred; but Chris is a definitely a more mature player. Billy will get there in time though.

The 6 six 'pulses' are distributed into 2 groups of three. 6/8 is 2 beats in a? bar, each beat having a value of three eighth-notes (quavers). 6/8 is a 'duple time' rhythm. You can count the 2 beats (six 'pulses' - stressing the 1st and 4th 'pulse') 1,2,3,2,2,3 or 1 triplet, 2 triplet or 1 & a, 2 & a - or you can save yourself counting and say "Bacon and Sausages, bacon and sausages" :)... @mikewhitla I was actualy taught by a drummer from southern dublin that the triplet patern is the customary way of playing and the single strikes didn't come about? untill people that didn't know how to play them got their hands on their hands on them. He may have been a little bias, he was quite passionate about his drumming.

@humblebum75 You missed the other half of the 4/4 time's meaning, though? generaly it's only important if you're reading music rather than doing improv. 4/4 - 4 beats per measure, the 1/4 note gets the beat (ie. is one beat). So, 6/8 is 6 beats per measure, the 1/8 note gets the beat. If you're playing at the same tempo, 6/8 will be twice as fast as 6/4. (you probably know this all, it's more for information for those that don't)

@mikewhitla all beats can be reduced to 2/4 or 2/2 or even 1/1 if we do it that way. The 6/8 becomes more apparent when we play melodically and by measure. If we played it as a 2/2 the same "feeling" will not be there. It works for drumming because we can focus on the "oom/pa" Try a melodic instrument and feel the difference ..one/two, one/two or? 123/456, 123/456. I prefer to play more by "feel" myself, numbers can make it confusing.

So if you played that cymbal thing (hey, I'm a bassist, what do I know?) for? one bar of 9/4, you could play 2 bars of 9/8 on the snare and bass drum and they would end at the same time. @mattiamusic I think thats because they have such natural ability they themselves dont really dissect playing like us mere humans do. To them its ingrained and they really cant explain how they do everything. Everything can be learned but there are very special people who elevate the art and dont really? closely follow others. They create while others imitate. However I think influences are good to a point.

You don't want musicians to be counting sixteenths to themselves, but you probably want to play with musicians who are on the same rhythmic level as you, because then the band can take flight. Most of the bassists Aaron plays with can hear the "1" in his phrasing without counting. I dig that this is about getting back to basics, and of course you have to tailor what you? play to the setting, but there are musicians out there who dig rhythmic risk taking

This is really easy. I don't know what notes this would be considered but the next step would be to play eighth notes like: 1+2+3+4+. The hi-hat hits all the notes, the bass on 1 and 3, and the snare on 2 and 4. And of course the way to count it would be: 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. Pretty simple? stuff.

I? think the 1-2-3-4 / 2-2-3-4 / 3-2-3-4 / 4-2-3-4 would throw me off if I were a beginner. I'm not even a real drummer but I can play crap like this with no problem, and that counting would still throw me off. Good old 1-2-3-4 over and over works fine lol.

I'm having problems with coordination. haha i need help with that...like...I have the basic beat in my head and i can? play it fine, as long as my eyes are focused on the high hat. once I take my eyes off the high hat, my beat goes to hell completely and I can't get back on track without stopping and starting over. :/
