@wighatsuperreggie Hey, when other pianists ask me how to get fast and quicker, I tell them to play lots of Chopin, practice slow? for a loooong time and then speed it up until it's in control. Piece of cake. If they need help with technique, they should go back to square one before trying fast playing.

I didn't have YouTube to help me out when I was learning, I had to do it the old fashioned way which was by practicing. That is all the video is, just practicing along with me. Great ride cymbal technique! Your statement that it takes "hard work" and that if we focus on it, we'll get there, is refreshing. Even long time players can be lulled into thinking that as we play over time? it will just come to us. No.....we actually have to practice the technique repetitiously to really get it. It's fun to watch you play Tim. Especially the up tempo stuff. Keep up the great work!

Really nice drumming and gear man! Would you recommend the? Aquarian Modern Vintage Medium for brushes? Sounds definitely awesome with sticks, but I'm just wondering if they have enough "grain" for that rich, fat brush sweep. I'm using a Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz 100% mahogany 14" snare with rounded bearing edges. Do you think it would work?

@monorailsandwich Yes I have, and I can tell you that nothing compares to real calf skin heads. They are something completely different. They are a? huge PITA though. The change pitch based on the weather which makes them basically impossible to keep in tune. Hope this helps!

@tim481? The P4 and P5 are basically the same interval. It just depends on which note you hear as the tonic. You probably tune them like that since the P5 is the first and strongest harmonic which means it's a more solid, versatile interval.

@godzuki444 20X14's are cool, but there is nothing like an 18! I have been playing 18's now for about 20 years and will never go back. I have toured with Rock and jazz bands with them and have never had a problem. For me it is a feel thing and 18's feel great to me. 20's are cool too, but seem too big for small group jazz to me. I think it is just a matter of personal preference. Hope this rambling helps! ?

Hey you did a real good? job here to "build" the Bossa Nova and to allow beginners to learn the pattern and the proper dynamics of it, I agree 2/3, 3/2 means nothing in afro cuban drumming. I....believe me I use the Bossa Nova Pattern as fills in all different places on the kit........There are no rules to indiviuality, keep up the good work Tim.

Hey Tim,very helpful drum lessons ! Just wondering why you don't use an "up and down" movement of the right arm. That's the technique I learned to accentuate the 2 and 4's. Basically means you slightly hit the ride while lifting your arm up on the 1 and 3's then fully hitting? when doing the 2 and 4's when your arm is going down. I think this really helps to put the accents but also "monitors" your placement on the pattern. Keep up the good work

Played many years. I have had technique trouble with how? to do the skip note. (ie. the third not of the triplet.) Iv'e experimente for a year. How do you make this happen without dragging the following quarter note off meator??? It's because in Orchestra it's all technical. Jazz....you can throw technical out the window thats greatest thing about it, you don't have to play? it exactly the way Stevie Wonder played it. I bet he would've thought this was a decent arrangement. Not the greatest but better than most of us couldve done.
