All about the Guitar: Music, Notes, Lessons, Tablatures

The guitar is a musical instrument invented at least five thousand years ago and is still one of the most popular music instruments in the world.

A guitar is a stringed instrument where the musician plucks or strums the string to make a note. It is a fretted instrument where the musician places his or her finger in order to make different kinds of notes.

Modern guitars have six strings that have the standard tuning of E A D G B E. It is played either by strumming or by plucking the strings. There are two broad types of guitars available today. These are acoustic guitars and electric guitars.

Acoustic guitars are more traditional and are not dependent on any amplification device. This is because the shape and the features of the guitar itself create enough sound to be heard by a handful of people. Today, some acoustic guitars are built with electronic devices for it to be automatically be amplified when it is plugged in to an amplifier.

The bodies of acoustic guitars are hollow to create the amplification of sound.

In electric guitars, the body is made solidly or semi hollow and produce little sound without the help of any amplification device. This means that in order for people to hear the sound clearly from an electric guitar, it has to have an amplification device connected, called the amplifier. There are different gadgets and effects that you can do with electric guitars and are usually used in blues and rock and roll music.

The different sounds that an electric guitar can produce are often hard or even impossible to produce in the acoustic guitar. For example, the distortion effect, the extensive hammering and pull offs, wah effects, phasers effects, compression effects, equalization effects, harmonizers, vibrato effect, flanging effect, chorus effect, speaker simulators and other effects is hard or even impossible for an acoustic guitar to copy.

With every pluck or strum of a string with the effects on, it will sound different in terms of the sound but has the same note.

For example:

• Distortion effect – The sound will sound distorted and very heavy. This is usually used in heavy metal and rock music.
• Wah effect – This moves the frequency response up and down every time you rock a foot pedal.
• Flanging effect – This causes a delay of the signal usually following the original note played with a series of the same notes. Much like giving the echo effect.

The different effects are activated using a foot pedal that is connected to your amplifier and your guitar.

Whatever kind of music you want to play, the guitar is one of the most used musical instruments in a band. So, if you plan on getting a guitar lesson, you will learn about the different ways on how to play the guitar. You can also learn about how to read tablatures and sheet music.
